Architects of the future, influencing the present: how ordinary people can make extraordinary politics

On behalf of Bellwethers and One World or None, welcome back to the Nature & Climate House Studio series.

We're so pleased you can continue that in the second session of Ordinary People Making Extraordinary Politics.

What would it take for a citizens' assembly to become common political infrastructure? That's the question this group left June with—not whether deliberative democracy works, since the evidence already says it does, but whether the political will exists to make it permanent.

Cultural and political normalisation, more than new evidence, is what the group is testing as the tool most likely to move that in the next few years.

This session picks up three commitments: making assemblies visible through storytelling, education and the people who've actually sat on one; building permanent democratic infrastructure inside governments and local authorities instead of relying on one-off convenings; and supporting former assembly members to become advocates in their own communities.

The aim is to leave with a shared answer, not just a shared hope.
